A JNTUH assistant professor, who had undergone a botched liposuction surgery at Akruti Hospital in Ameerpet here a few days ago, died at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences during treatment for the injuries.

Nagendra Kumar did PhD in Biotechnology a few months ago and was working as an assistant professor at the same university. He was admitted to Akruti Hospital for liposuction and a team of doctors performed fat modelling treatment.

“After being discharged from the hospital, he developed some complications in the intestines. During the surgery his large intestine got damaged due to the leakage of excreta. As a result, his kidneys, liver, pancreas and lungs were infected,” police said.

His family members took him to Sai Vani hospital near Indira Park but the doctors there, on finding his condition critical, advised them to go to KIMS on Minister Road for immediate and better treatment. But the man died on Sunday.

Nagendra’s father Venkateswar Rao lodged a complaint against Akruthi Hospital with the Punjagutta police who registered a case under Section 337 (causing an injury by rash or negligent act) against the Akruti Hospital management and doctor Nagaraju who performed the surgery.

After Nagendra’s death, police invoked Sec 304-A (causing death due negligence.)
